Jersey City police investigating death of 15-year-old gunshot victim

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy that occurred on Monday.

Responding to a 911 call around 4:20 a.m. at 124 Wilkinson Avenue, the Jersey City Police Department found the victim, later identified as Tyshawn Smith of Jersey City, with an apparent gunshot wound. Smith was pronounced dead approximately 35 minutes later. The cause and manner of Smith’s death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
