Juvenile arrested after social media threat to shoot up DC school leads to gun seizure

WASHINGTON, DC – A juvenile is in custody after federal and local law enforcement uncovered social media threats to carry out a school shooting in the District, authorities announced Thursday.

Special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with Metro Transit Police officers, executed search warrants at a residence where multiple handguns, ammunition, and magazines — including an extended magazine — were seized.

Investigators said they acted quickly after discovering an alarming post online that referenced a possible plan to target a D.C. school. The post was traced to a minor, who was taken into custody.

Officials emphasized that the coordinated response “interrupted what could’ve possibly led to a school shooting incident.”

A spokesperson for District of Columbia Public Schools stated they were not aware of any student being arrested in connection with the case.
