Traffic stop on Oldtown Road leads to drug arrest in Cumberland
CUMBERLAND, MD — A traffic stop on Oldtown Road led to a drug arrest after a police K-9 alerted officers to suspected narcotics inside a vehicle, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
The incident happened Thursday, May 7, at about 1:45 p.m. when an officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation along Oldtown Road.
Police said the officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 33-year-old Sierra Jane Broadwater of Cumberland.
During the stop, officers requested a K-9 unit to conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle.
Authorities said the K-9 gave a positive alert, prompting officers to search the vehicle and its occupants.
Investigators said Broadwater was allegedly found in possession of controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia.
She was arrested and transported to Cumberland Police headquarters.
Broadwater later received citations charging her with possession of CDS other than marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
She was released pending trial in Allegany County District Court.
