Kentucky Woman Charged After Trying to Flush Newborn in Restaurant Bathroom

BOWLING GREEN, KY — A distressing incident at a local IHOP in Bowling Green led to the arrest of 35-year-old Shaniqua D. Caldwell, who is accused of trying to flush her newborn baby down a toilet. The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on May 29.

Bowling Green Police Department, along with emergency medical services, rushed to the scene at the IHOP located on the 3200 block of Scottsville Road following multiple 911 calls.

Initial reports indicated a woman was bleeding heavily in the bathroom, potentially from a miscarriage. However, the situation quickly escalated when the caller witnessed a newborn in the toilet, alleging that the woman attempted to flush the child.

Upon arrival, first responders confirmed these reports with witnesses at the scene. Caldwell was subsequently located and arrested after fleeing the restaurant on foot. She now faces charges of concealing the birth of an infant, as detailed in an arrest citation released by local authorities.
