ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Englewood Cliffs Mayor Mario Kranjac, a prominent conservative figure known as the “Trumpy Mayor,” is calling on National Right to Life to rescind its endorsement of Bill Spadea, accusing the Republican gubernatorial candidate of failing to support key pro-life legislation.
In a public statement released Friday, Kranjac criticized Spadea for not backing the 20-Week Pain Capable Bill, a measure aimed at prohibiting abortions after 20 weeks of gestation. Kranjac described Spadea’s refusal to support the bill as “weakness, fear, and political naivety,” and said it undermines the integrity of endorsements from National Right to Life and New Jersey Right to Life.
“How can they let Spadea get away with dodging it?” Kranjac asked, referencing the bill initially promoted by New Jersey Right to Life. “They render the NRLC and NJRTL endorsements deceptive and potentially fraudulent.”
Kranjac, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, urged pro-life organizations to implement transparent and inclusive candidate vetting processes to prevent political exploitation of anti-abortion voters.
“Pro-life warriors know that bad actors in politics routinely exploit pro-life voters for their support and then disappear once elected,” Kranjac said. “They’ll only do the bare minimum to placate select activists who would otherwise call them out.”

Kranjac says pro-life voters shouldn’t be taken for granted
Kranjac warned that conservative voters may be misled by what he called “establishment-insider” candidates unwilling to fully commit to the pro-life cause. He framed the current political moment as pivotal following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.
“President Trump fought hard to overturn Roe vs. Wade,” Kranjac said. “He empowered the States with the ability to finally start building cultures of life and we’re not going to squander that opportunity.”
As of Friday, National Right to Life had not publicly responded to Kranjac’s request.
