It looked more like a gaming center or LAN party where everyone was playing Grand Theft Auto Online with each other, but it was actually a simulation of an active shooter being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Last Tuesday through Thursday, supervisors from LCSO as well as supervisors from multiple municipalities and fire departments, participated in a large-scale active shooter training exercise.
Although these types of training focus on active killers, they are applicable in multiple situations. During the last day of training and on Friday (two separate incidents), LCSO received bomb threats at a local school.
Although both “threats” turned out to be a local student from a different school, the process to ensure the safety of the students and staff played out using this training. LCSO detectives located and charged the juvenile in the faux bomb threat.
