LANCASTER, Ohio — A Lancaster man has claimed a $1 million top prize after purchasing a winning VIP Millions scratch-off ticket, the Ohio Lottery announced Thursday.

The winner opted for the $500,000 cash payout instead of the game’s annual prize structure of $40,000 a year for 25 years. After taxes totaling 28 percent, he will receive a lump sum of $360,000.

The winning $50 ticket was bought at Stakely’s Watson, located at 1510 Sheridan Drive in Lancaster. VIP Millions still has 31 top prizes remaining.

The game offers players a chance at high-tier prizes and is part of the Ohio Lottery’s ongoing slate of premium scratch-off options.

Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $33 billion to support public education across the state.
