LANDOVER, MD—In the April 1 draw, a strategic decision to replay the winning numbers transformed a $7 Powerball prize into a $50,000 jackpot for a Prince George’s County resident.

The fortunate cleaning service worker initially won $7 by matching two numbers plus the Powerball with the numbers 15, 24, 40, 42, and 56, Powerball 23. Encouraged by her initial win, she played the same numbers again, leading to a substantial increase in matched numbers and prize money in the subsequent draw. She matched four white balls and the Powerball, narrowly missing the $975 million jackpot by just one number.

Overwhelmed with emotion, the winner described her reaction as “crying tears of joy,” though she remains undecided on how to utilize her winnings. The winning ticket was purchased at Bill’s Wine & Liquor in Hyattsville, Prince George’s County.
