Leonia police investigate string of vehicle thefts on Chestnut Street

LEONIA, N.J. — The Leonia Police Department is investigating a series of thefts from vehicles that occurred early Sunday morning on Chestnut Street, with authorities releasing images of a suspect captured on video.

The surveillance footage, recorded at approximately 6:20 a.m., shows an individual wearing a black hoodie with a white circular logo on the back approaching cars in the area. Police have not yet identified the suspect and are seeking assistance from residents who may have additional security footage or information.

“We are asking residents to check their security cameras and to contact the Leonia Police Department if you have any information,” police stated in a social media post. Information can also be sent via email to tips@leonianj.gov.

Officials emphasized the importance of securing vehicles, reminding residents to remove valuables and lock their car doors to prevent theft.
