Lewes Man Arrested for Fifth DUI Offense

LEWES, DE – Louis Morelli, a 69-year-old Lewes resident, was arrested by the Delaware State Police on Friday, for felony DUI after a traffic stop in Lewes. At approximately 1:00 p.m., a patrolling trooper observed Morelli’s blue Honda Accord traveling on Lewes Georgetown Highway. The Accord was seen accelerating and passing multiple vehicles without signaling, nearly causing an accident at the intersection of Dairy Farm Road and Beaver Dam Road.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop, and during their interaction, signs of impairment were detected in Morelli’s demeanor. A computer check revealed that Morelli had four prior DUI convictions. Morelli was taken into custody and charged with a 5th Offense DUI (Felony) and numerous traffic violations. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $7,000 secured bond.
