Liquor store turns routine lottery stop into 0K payday for Maryland retiree

Forestville retiree scans ticket in store and lands $100,000 FAST PLAY jackpot

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD – A retired Prince George’s County woman who regularly buys FAST PLAY tickets walked into a District Heights liquor store for a routine purchase and walked out knowing she had just won a $100,000 top prize before even reaching her car.

The Forestville resident claimed her prize after purchasing $20 worth of FAST PLAY tickets on Sunday, Feb. 16. One of those tickets, from the $10 Big Win game, delivered the $100,000 top prize.

The winning ticket was purchased at JB Liquors, located at 5842 Silver Hill Road in District Heights.

After completing her purchase, she scanned the ticket at the store’s lottery terminal. The screen displayed a “take to lottery” message, leaving her unsure of what it meant.

She asked a store clerk for assistance. The clerk informed her that the message indicated a $100,000 win.

Lottery officials said the winner plans to use part of the prize for home renovations and invest the remaining funds. A retired D.C. Metro employee, she spends much of her time at the casino, bowling alley, and church.

JB Liquors will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the $100,000 top-prize-winning FAST PLAY ticket.
