Little Ferry doctor charged with sexual assault during patient exam

LITTLE FERRY, N.J. — A 68-year-old Montville physician has been arrested and charged with sexual assault offenses after allegedly assaulting a female patient during a medical examination at a Little Ferry clinic, authorities announced.

Richard B. Tancer was taken into custody on July 18 following a joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Little Ferry Police Department. The investigation began the same day after police were contacted about an alleged sexual assault at Family Medical Group in Little Ferry.

According to investigators, Tancer sexually assaulted an adult female patient while conducting a medical examination at the facility. He was arrested in Montville and charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

Tancer was booked into the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance in Hackensack.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have asked anyone with additional information to contact the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
