Loaded Handgun Seized from Student at Oneida Middle School

SCHENECTADY, NY – A loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered at Oneida Middle School on January 8, 2024, leading to the arrest of a 13-year-old student. Schenectady Police Department’s Community Engagement Officers responded to the school around 2:00 PM following a report from the school staff.

The firearm was found in the student’s locker. The 13-year-old has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

The Schenectady School District is actively communicating with students and families at Oneida Middle School and collaborating with the Schenectady Police Department in response to this incident. In compliance with legal protocols, no identifying details about the juvenile suspect have been released.
