ATM stop turns into $100K jackpot shock for Norfolk longshoreman
NORFOLK, VA – A quick ATM stop at a Norfolk Wawa led to a $100,000 surprise when a longshoreman decided to grab a couple of scratchers and later uncovered the top prize while on FaceTime with his fiancée.
Justin Johnson said he was using the ATM at the Wawa at 6301 North Military Highway when he noticed someone playing the Virginia Lottery machine. He purchased a few scratch-off tickets and took them home to scratch.
While on FaceTime with his fiancée, Johnson revealed a top prize worth $100,000 in the 10X the Money game.
“My heart started beating fast,” he told Virginia Lottery officials when claiming the prize.
The 10X the Money game (#2382) offers prizes ranging from $5 up to $100,000. This marks the first top prize claimed in the game, leaving four $100,000 prizes still unclaimed.
The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,370,880. The overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 4.48.
Johnson, who works as a longshoreman, said he hopes to use the winnings to purchase a home.
All Virginia Lottery profits support K-12 education in the Commonwealth. Norfolk City received more than $34.5 million in lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2025, the lottery raised more than $901 million statewide for public schools.
