Longtime fugitive in 2024 DC shooting case arrested and charged

Suspect arrested in Fairlawn shooting more than a year after Southeast DC attack

Washington, DC – More than a year after a man was shot in Southeast’s Fairlawn neighborhood, a suspect has been arrested and extradited to the District to face charges stemming from the 2024 incident.

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, around 2:10 a.m., officers from the Sixth District responded to the 1800 block of Q Street, Southeast, after a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found an adult male victim who was conscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.

After an extensive investigation, detectives identified 42-year-old Christopher Warren, of District Heights, Maryland, as a suspect in the shooting. On Friday, September 12, 2025, he was extradited to Washington, DC, and arrested under a DC Superior Court warrant.

Warren is charged with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). Officials have not released a motive for the shooting or the current condition of the victim.
