Lyndhurst Man Wins $50K from Ohio Lottery Before Surgery

Pile of money.

Richmond Heights, OH – Thomas Centa, a resident of Lyndhurst, has struck luck with a $50,000 win from the Ohio Lottery’s Billion scratch-off game. His win came just as he was trying to distract himself ahead of a scheduled surgery.

Centa purchased his lucky ticket at Discount Tobacco & Beverage on Richmond Road in Richmond Heights. Reflecting on the moment of discovery, he remarked, “My first thought was, ‘Did I see $500 or $500,000?’” It turned out to be a substantial $50,000, providing a timely and pleasant surprise before his medical procedure.

After taxes, which include mandatory federal and state deductions totaling 28%, Centa will take home about $36,000. He has plans to share his good fortune with his family and a close friend, in addition to paying off some bills and saving the remainder.

The Billion scratch-off, a $50 game, still boasts 155 remaining prizes of $50,000, among other significant rewards. Players can learn more about this and other games offered by the Ohio Lottery on their official website.
