Machete-wielding suspect arrested after highway dispute

Glen Burnie, MD – A 29-year-old man is facing assault charges after allegedly threatening another man with a machete during a heated encounter along Crain Highway in Glen Burnie Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on August 14 in the 800 block of Crain Highway South. The 49-year-old victim told officers he was seated inside his vehicle when a man approached during a dispute and began threatening him with a machete. The suspect then reportedly thrust the weapon into the vehicle, narrowly missing the victim.

Responding officers located the suspect, identified as Jason Tony Portillo of Glen Burnie, running on nearby Padfield Avenue. Although the weapon was not recovered, Portillo was taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
