Mail carrier robbed at gunpoint in DC as suspect arrested minutes later

WASHINGTON, DC – A postal worker was held at gunpoint in Northwest Washington on Tuesday evening, prompting a swift police response that led to the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect during a nearby traffic stop.

The incident occurred around 5:51 p.m. on April 1 in the 4800 block of 3rd Street, Northwest. The suspect approached the letter carrier while they were delivering mail, displayed a firearm, and demanded property. The victim complied, and the suspect fled the area.

Officers quickly canvassed the neighborhood and located the suspect a short time later during a routine traffic stop.

Hennok Woldu, of Northwest DC, was arrested and charged with Robbery, Possession With Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Receiving Stolen Property.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges may be considered.
