Lonaconing man arrested after allegedly stealing dog during Cumberland burglary

CUMBERLAND, MD – A 35-year-old Lonaconing man was arrested Tuesday after police say he broke into a Cumberland residence and stole the homeowner’s dog, which was later recovered unharmed.

Officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 500 block of Essex Place on September 2 after receiving a report of a burglary. The homeowner told police that a man, identified as Hawke Anthony Coffman, entered the residence without permission and took their dog.

Police quickly located Coffman nearby and arrested him without incident. The dog was safely returned to its owner.

Coffman was charged with first-degree burglary and fourth-degree burglary. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and released on his own recognizance.
