PANTOPS, Va. – A Charlottesville man is facing felony charges after police say he threatened to harm employees and blow up a Bojangles restaurant in Pantops following a dispute over an incorrect food order.
According to the Albemarle County Police Department, staff at the Bojangles on the 2000 block of Abbey Road received multiple threatening phone calls on December 31. Detectives launched an investigation and later identified the suspect as 45-year-old Anthony M. Scott of Charlottesville.
On Tuesday, officers from Albemarle County and Charlottesville executed a search warrant at Scott’s residence. Police recovered a firearm and ammunition during the search, though no explosives or materials were found. An ACPD K-9 trained to detect explosives assisted in the operation.
Scott was taken into custody without incident and charged with two felonies: making threats to bomb, burn, destroy, or discharge a firearm at a building (§18.2-83) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (§18.2-308.2).
Major Camille Stewart, Deputy Chief of Police for Professional Standards and Criminal Investigations, said in a statement that all threats of violence are handled with the utmost seriousness, regardless of motive. “Threats like these are thoroughly investigated and, as this case shows, can result in serious criminal charges,” she said.
