Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After Shooting Roommate in Columbia Town Home

COLUMBIA, MD – A man who shot his roommate Tuesday night in the Kendall’s Choice town home complex has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

According to the Howard County Police Department, his victim remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. 
 
“Police arrested Zongping Zhang, 55, at his residence in the 8400 block of Oak Bush Terrace after they responded around 7:45 p.m,” HCPD said in a statement on Wednesday. “For a report that he shot his roommate. Inside the residence police located the victim, 49-year-old Matthew Ng, suffering from shotgun wounds. He was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he remains.” 
 
Through investigation, police believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute over living conditions between the two roommates.   
 
Zhang was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and a weapon violation. He is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
