Man Arrested for June 2023 Armed DC Carjacking

WASHINGTON, DC – The Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District has announced the arrest of 43-year-old Jimmy Lee Johnson, Jr., of Northeast DC, in connection with an armed carjacking incident from June 2023. The event unfolded in the early hours, around 1:25 a.m., on June 12, 2023, in the 1600 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast.

Three suspects approached the victim, demanding their property. During the confrontation, one of the suspects revealed a handgun, assaulted the victim, and seized their belongings. Although they did not manage to take the victim’s vehicle, the suspects fled, leaving the victim to seek medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

Johnson was apprehended on Thursday, March 28, 2024, by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force under a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. He is now facing charges of Armed Carjacking, marking a significant step in the police department’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the district.
