Man Arrested for Motor Vehicle Theft in Stafford Township

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ – On Monday, the Stafford Township Police Department responded to a reported motor vehicle theft at Causeway Hyundai.

A 2023 Ford F-150 was stolen from the rear parking lot of the dealership during the early morning hours.

The stolen vehicle was later located at the Ocean County Mall, where Kevin C. Downes, a 29-year-old Barnegat resident, was found inside.

With the aid of the Toms River Police Department, Downes was placed under arrest.

Further investigation revealed that Downes had also used a credit card belonging to the vehicle’s owner fraudulently.

Downes now faces charges for Motor Vehicle Theft, Burglary, Fraudulent Use of Credit Cards, and Receiving Stolen Property. He is currently detained in the Ocean County Jail, awaiting his court appearance.
