Man arrested for shooting death of 13-year-old girl in Baltimore

On November 15, 2022, 35-year-old Tavon Battle was arrested by members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force at a home in Harford County, Md.

BALTIMORE, MD – A 13-year-old girl who was shot last Monday in the area of East Lafayette Street died from her wounds on Saturday, and today, police have arrested her killer.

13-year-old Kelsey Washington was shot and police immediately began soliciting witnesses for information. That information led them to a 35-year-old man.

After being shot, Washington was transported by medics to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics Hospital where she was listed in grave condition. On Saturday, she was declared brain-dead and pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives with the Baltimore Police Department continued their search for her killer using video footage and photos, along with witness testimony to tie Tavon Battle to the shooting death of Washington.

Battle was arrested at a home in Harford County and charged with 1st and 2nd-degree murder.
