Man arrested on assault and weapons charges filed in Ocean County

MIDDLESEX, N.J. — A man has been taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to official records. The incident happened, allegedly in Ocean County.

Porfirio Vargas, was taken into to custody on Sunday. The charges stem from an incident involving the alleged unlawful possession of a weapon and its use to inflict bodily injury, authorities said.

According to booking information, Vargas, 29, is charged under New Jersey criminal statutes for second-degree aggravated assault (2C:12-1B(2)) and third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes (2C:39-4D). He also faces a fourth-degree charge for possessing a weapon without proper authorization (2C:39-5D).

No bond has been set in this case, and Vargas remains held without bail, with records indicating a status of “no bail” as of Sunday. His case remains open, and there is no listed
