Man assaulted and robbed in Central Park

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an individual involved in an assault and attempted robbery incident.

On Monday, June 19, at approximately 2:30 am, an unknown individual attacked a 49-year-old man while he was riding a ‘Citi Bike’ near Central Park West and West 86 Street.

The assailant sprayed an unknown substance in the victim’s face causing burning and irritation to his eyes. The suspect then knocked the victim off the bike and attempted to steal it. The victim was able to catch up to the suspect and retrieve his bicycle.

During the struggle, the victim was punched several times. The assailant fled the scene without the bicycle and entered the Central Park West and 86 Street MTA ‘C”B’ subway station. Emergency Medical Services treated the victim at the scene.
