Man Attacked Police During Domestic Violence Call in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, DE – A domestic dispute at the Best Night Inn on 1200 West Avenue escalated into a violent altercation involving police on December 2.

A 22-year-old woman from Newark and 31-year-old James Wright from Wilmington were arrested for felony assault and resisting arrest.

The incident began around 9:00 pm when a trooper responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Wright assaulted his girlfriend and subsequently attacked the responding trooper.

He resisted arrest, resulting in a physical confrontation that involved officers from the Delaware River and Bay Authority. Both Wright and his girlfriend were eventually taken into custody.

The woman was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force, and disorderly conduct. She was released on a $1,500 unsecured bond. Wright faces similar charges and was released on a $12,000 unsecured bond. Details regarding the injuries to the officers involved were not disclosed.
