Man Breaking Into Car Shoots Homeowner After Being Confronted

UTICA, NY – A Utica man was shot by a car thief after confronting the criminal as he was trying to break into his car on Sunday.

At around 5:45 am on Sunday, Utica police officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Noyes St regarding a male that was shot in the upper arm.

“Upon arrival, the officers were informed that the victim and his family members had noticed that an individual was attempting to break into the vehicle that was parked in the driveway,” police said. “They went outside to confront the party when the suspect withdrew a handgun from a book and fired one round at them, striking the victim in the arm.”

The suspect then fled westbound on Noyes St and then southbound on one of the adjacent streets.

“We are asking for the public’s assistance in attempting to locate the suspect on any nearby surveillance footage,” police are now asking.
