Man Charged in Fatal Hit and Run in Paterson

PATERSON, NJ- Jose Tremols-Acosta, a 62-year-old resident of Paterson, has been charged in relation to the fatal hit and run that occurred last Thursday at the intersection of Broadway and Rosa Parks Blvd.

The Paterson Police Department, in collaboration with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, led the investigation.

Tremols-Acosta faces multiple charges, including Death by Auto and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death.

On the day of the incident, Tremols-Acosta was reportedly driving recklessly, eventually hitting two pedestrians on the sidewalk.

He then fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly after. One of the victims, an unidentified female, was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, while Joseph Shaw, an 83-year-old man from Paterson, remains in critical condition. Tremols-Acosta is currently detained at the Bergen County Jail, awaiting his court appearance.
