Man critically injured in early morning stabbing in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — A man was critically injured in a stabbing early Monday morning in West Philadelphia’s 18th District, authorities said.

The attack occurred around 3:04 a.m. on the 56XX block of Sansom Street. Police said the victim, a Black male identified as “John Doe” and believed to be in his mid-20s, suffered a stab wound to the left side of his abdomen.

Officers transported him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police have taken a suspect into custody, though the weapon has not been recovered. Southwest Detectives are investigating.

Authorities continue to search for the weapon as the investigation unfolds.
