Man Dead Following Portsmouth Shooting, Suspect Charged

PORTSMOUTH, VA – Early Tuesday saw the fatal shooting of Zachary Caldwell, 29, in Portsmouth. The incident occurred near 4700 Viola Terrace at around 1:15 a.m.

Despite emergency measures, Caldwell succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Cody West, also 29, has since been charged by the Portsmouth Police Department in relation to Caldwell’s death.

Charges against West include Aggravated Murder in the Principal Second, Use of Firearm in the Commission of Felony, and several other firearm-related offenses.

The scene of the crime showed evidence of a violent altercation, with two damaged vehicles observed – one on the road and the other on a front lawn. The Portsmouth Police Department continues its investigation.
