Man fatally shot in early morning attack on West Venango Street in 25th District

An adult male was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Philadelphia’s 25th Police District, authorities said, marking another fatal shooting in a weekend of violence across the city.

The incident occurred around 7:07 a.m. on the 11xx block of West Venango Street. Police and emergency responders arrived on scene shortly after the shooting and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene at 7:15 a.m.

Officials have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and there have been no arrests as of Sunday afternoon.

The Philadelphia Police Department confirmed that the scene was secured and held for investigation. Detectives from the Homicide Unit are leading the investigation and are working to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.

No information regarding possible suspects or surveillance footage has been made public at this time. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the department.
