A 33-year-old man was fatally stabbed early Saturday in Harlem, authorities said.

Police responded to a 911 call at around 5:27 a.m. reporting an assault in progress at 2640 8th Avenue, located in the 32nd Precinct. Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to his back.

The victim, identified as Jervey Barfield, of 184 Bradhurst Avenue in Manhattan, was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arrival.

Officials have not released any details regarding possible suspects or motives. No arrests had been made as of Monday.

A police investigation into the fatal stabbing remains ongoing.

Victim identified as local Manhattan resident

Barfield, whose residence was listed as a nearby address in Manhattan, was attacked near his home in the early morning hours. Authorities have not confirmed whether the assault was targeted or random.

No weapons were recovered at the scene, and police are canvassing the area for surveillance footage or potential witnesses.

According to NYPD data, the 32nd Precinct has seen a marginal rise in reported assaults this year compared to the same period last year. However, fatal stabbings remain relatively rare.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death as part of the investigation.
