Washington, D.C. — A 61-year-old man was found fatally shot inside a Northeast apartment on Friday afternoon, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. in the 600 block of 21st Street NE. First responders arrived at approximately 12:48 p.m. and discovered the victim, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by DC Fire and EMS.
The deceased was identified as Steven Stewart of Northeast, D.C. No suspects have been named, and investigators have not released details regarding a motive or whether a weapon was recovered.
The apartment where Stewart was found is part of a residential area in the city’s Fifth District. Officers secured the scene as detectives began collecting evidence and interviewing residents nearby.
This marks another fatal shooting in the District amid continued efforts to address violent crime in both Northeast and Southeast neighborhoods.

Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the homicide.
Residents with information are asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or send anonymous tips via text to 50411. Officials stress that tipsters should not take any direct action themselves.
As of Monday, no arrests had been made and no additional information about potential suspects had been released.
