Man Indicted for Fatal DWI Incident in Gramercy

MANHATTAN, NY – MAHBUB ALI, 26, has been indicted for driving while intoxicated, resulting in the death of a bicyclist and injuring four others in Gramercy on June 4.

The charges include Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence.

On June 4, after a day of drinking, ALI allegedly drove at high speeds on Third Avenue, striking and killing a 22-year-old bicyclist at East 21st Street.

The impact caused significant injuries, leading to the bicyclist’s death at Bellevue Hospital. ALI’s vehicle then crashed into various objects, injuring another bicyclist and two pedestrians. The passenger in ALI’s car also sustained injuries.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A.s Kristen Baraiola and Roy Chon. District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., thanked the NYPD officers involved in the investigation.
