Emergency Sign over a Hospital Emergency Room Entrance

INDEPENDENCE, MO – A tragic incident at Centerpoint Medical Center has led to a husband facing a second-degree murder charge after he allegedly killed his wife during her dialysis treatment. The event occurred in Independence, Missouri, where the suspect, Ronnie Wiggs, reportedly could not afford his wife’s medical bills.

According to police reports, the hospital staff discovered the woman unconscious around an hour after she was last seen alert at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. Despite immediate medical intervention, she showed no signs of pulse or brain activity. Staff noted suspicious injuries, including redness around her neck and a fresh throat wound, prompting them to contact Wiggs.

Wiggs, who did not have transportation to the hospital, later arrived with his stepson. During their time at the hospital, he confessed to both the stepson and a nurse that he had choked his wife to death to prevent her from screaming. Independence Police detained Wiggs following his admission. In a subsequent interview, he confessed to the act and revealed previous attempts on his wife’s life.
