Man killed in Brooklyn hit-and-run while crossing East New York Avenue

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A 36-year-old man was killed Thursday night after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run collision at a busy East New York intersection, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 9:55 p.m. reporting a pedestrian struck near East New York Avenue and Broadway in the 75th Precinct, according to the NYPD.

A preliminary investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad revealed that a gray four-door sedan was traveling west on East New York Avenue when it hit the man as he crossed the street.

The victim, identified as Nyron Shaw of Brooklyn, was taken by EMS to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver fled the scene after the crash, police said. “The operator of the vehicle did not remain on scene,” the NYPD noted.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to authorities.
