A man found passed out behind the wheel of his car at a Bayville gas station led police on a dangerous chase that involved a motor vehicle crash and foot pursuit.
According to police, on Sunday afternoon, officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department were called to the Quick Check gas station on Atlantic City Boulevard for a man who was unconscious while behind the wheel at the gas pumps.
“Police were advised that a male came to the gas pumps and appeared to be under the influence. The driver was described as “nodding off” in the vehicle,” police reported. “Upon police arrival, they approach the vehicle to make contact with the driver. The driver, identified as Kyle Comerford, 21, of Lacey, would not roll the window down and refused to speak with officers.”

While this was occurring, Ptl. Hester witnessed Mr. Comerford concealing an unknown object into the area between the front seat and the center console. Ptl. Hester then ordered the driver out of the vehicle, to which he refused. Comerford put the truck in reverse, crashing into an occupied vehicle before driving over the curb and median onto Route 9 headed south toward Lacey Township.
Lacey police located the vehicle after Comerford fled on foot. He was captured by police with a bookbag full of drugs. He was arrested and charged accordingly.
