Man Sentenced for Holding Family, Child at Gunpoint During Home Invasion

QUEENS, NY – On Tuesday, Tex Ortiz, 38, of First Avenue in Manhattan, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in connection to a 2020 kidnapping incident in Richmond Hill.

The event saw five individuals, including a 9-month-old, held at gunpoint during a failed home invasion turned hostage situation.

On November 17, 2020, Ortiz and co-defendant Wilbert Wilson, 53, of the Bronx, broke into a home on 125th Street, restraining and threatening its occupants.

A woman was pistol-whipped while holding her infant daughter. As police arrived, hostages were used as human shields before both Ortiz and Wilson surrendered.

While Ortiz’s sentencing is complete, the case against Wilson is pending. He will be sentenced on September 12.
