Man Shoots and Kills Attacking Pit Bull, No Charges Filed

MANASSAS, Va. — Police responded to an incident involving a vicious dog on Saturday morning in the 10700 block of Balls Ford Road.

At approximately 10:42 a.m. on October 19, 2024, a 56-year-old man and his family were walking their dogs when a pit bull broke free from a nearby home and attacked one of their pets. During the altercation, the man shot and killed the attacking dog to protect his own.

A second dog from the same home also escaped but returned without incident. No additional injuries or property damage were reported.

Animal Control Officers responded to the scene and took possession of the deceased dog. After an investigation and consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, authorities determined that no charges would be filed.
