Man slashed with box cutter at Union Square Park

NEW YORK, NY – A man was slashed by a suspect with a box cutter Monday morning outside Union Square Park in Manhattan.

Detectives with the NYPD’s 13th Precinct are now searching for a medium complexion male suspect captured on video surveillance cameras at a nearby subway station.

According to police, on Monday, at around 9:40 am, the suspect approached the 36-year-old male victim opposite 19 Union Square West near Union Square Park and slashed him from behind with a boxcutter.

Police say the attack was unprovoked. The suspect suffered lacerations to his back caused by the box cutter.

He was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. The individual fled eastbound on East 16 Street.
