Man stuck in mud rescued from Springfield’s Watershops Pond

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Today, the Sprinfield Fire Department rescued a person stuck in the mud at the now drained Watershops pond.  One individual was rescued, the fire department said and there were no injuries.   The pond was drained earlier this month as part of a flood control project to protect the local neighborhood from flooding and to perform maintenance on the Watershops Dam downstream.  $2.5 million in federal funding was awarded for the project.
