Man Surrenders After Scaling George Washington Bridge, Causing Major Traffic Delays

GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE, NY—A man caused significant traffic disruption Saturday after climbing the south side Manhattan tower of the George Washington Bridge.

The incident began at 11:52 AM, leading to hours of traffic standstill on both the upper and lower levels of the bridge.

Emergency services, including police and emergency service units, were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and ensure the climber’s safe descent. The climber surrendered without incident around 4:00 PM and was subsequently taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for evaluation.

Initial traffic delays were estimated at 30 minutes but quickly escalated to over 90 minutes at the height of the emergency.

While the motives for the climber’s actions are still under investigation, the incident has been resolved, and no injuries have been reported.
