MANATEE COUNTY, FL – A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy was killed Sunday afternoon in an off-duty car crash. Deputy Antonio Hernandez, 22, was involved in a crash at approximately 4:50 am driving northbound on I-70 when a 72-year-old man changed lanes into his vehicle. Forced off the road, Hernandez’ car crossed the media and crashed into a pole. He was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. He joined the department in July.
