Manhunt underway for son accused of fatally shooting father in East Pittsburgh home

Son wanted for murder after father found dead in Ridge Avenue home

EAST PITTSBURGH, PA – A 19-year-old is on the run after allegedly gunning down his father inside a Ridge Avenue residence last week, prompting an intense manhunt by Allegheny County authorities.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday, September 16, Eastern Regional Mon Valley Police responded to reports of gunfire inside a home in the 500 block of Ridge Avenue. When first responders arrived, they discovered 45-year-old Ta’Ron Reid suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allegheny County homicide detectives were called in to investigate. Through witness interviews and evidence collected at the scene, investigators identified the victim’s son, Tayron Reid, as the suspected shooter.

Detectives worked with the district attorney’s office, and by the end of last week, Tayron Reid was formally charged with criminal homicide.

Reid remains at large and is considered potentially armed and dangerous. His last known address is in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, and authorities are urging the public not to approach him.
