Man’s body pulled from Passaic River in Belleville

BELLEVILLE, N J – The body of an unknown man was pulled from the Passaic River early Saturday morning after reports of a possible man drowning earlier in Kearny.

At around 7:40 pm, officers responded to the area and began a search for the alleged missing person. After finding his body, police learned the man was a 49-year-old Newark resident. His identity has not been released.

Rescue operations were conducted in the area of the Rutgers Street Bridge, just blocks from the Belleville Police Department headquarters.

Investigators said there were no signs of injury, and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
