Maryland Man Wins $100,000 in Scratch-off Game

FORESTVILLE, MD—A Forestville man, Kenneth Jones, experienced an emotional drive home as he uncovered a $100,000 prize from a 50X The Cash scratch-off ticket. Overwhelmed with joy, Jones and his friend shared tears of happiness during the ride. “We cried with joy, all right! When you see the prize, you can’t believe it,” Jones said.

Jones, a dedicated player of the 50X The Cash game, had won smaller amounts previously but this was his first major win. He purchased the winning ticket at Allview Liquors in Ellicott City. During the drive home, his friend, who was driving, watched as Jones scratched off a 10X symbol to reveal the $10,000 prize, which added up to the top prize of $100,000.

The retail nightshift manager and father of six plans to save most of his winnings, with some set aside to help friends and family. Allview Liquors, where the ticket was purchased, will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.

The 50X The Cash scratch-offs launched in January, featuring ten $100,000 top prizes, with three still up for grabs. The game also offers unclaimed prizes ranging from $50,000 to $10. It is part of the X the Cash scratch-off family and includes a second-chance promotion with drawings in June and July, offering additional prizes of $50,000 and $75,000.

  • Maryland Lottery Winner Walks Away with $50,000 Pick 5 Reward

DEALE, MD – A Maryland Lottery regular from Anne Arundel County finally claimed what he called his first “brag-worthy” win, walking away with $50,000 from a Pick 5 drawing after four decades of playing.

He couldn’t believe it when the lottery results were in.

The longtime player visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on September 30 to collect his prize, which came from a $1 ticket purchased at Park’s Drive-In Liquors on East Bay Front Road in Deale. The winning numbers, 26212, were drawn from a variation of his ex-wife’s birthday.

“I’ve had some wins over the years, but nothing worth bragging about until now,” he said, describing the win as long overdue.

For more than 40 years, the Anne Arundel resident has played Lottery games using number combinations tied to family birthdays. This time, the strategy paid off with a top-tier Pick 5 prize. He told officials he has only shared the news with his children, promising them a “very good Christmas.”

The retailer also benefits, receiving a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

  • New Jersey Lottery Winner Still Has Not Claimed $1.3 Million Ticket Sold in Freehold

TRENTON, NJ – A Jersey Cash 5 jackpot worth $1.3 million is about to slip away, as the winning ticket purchased in Monmouth County last November remains unclaimed and is set to expire in just weeks.

The ticket, valued at $1,300,245, was sold at the Wawa located at 3303 Route 9 in Freehold. It matched the winning numbers for the November 25, 2024, drawing. Under New Jersey Lottery rules, winning tickets must be redeemed within one year.

“Players really should check their tickets,” New Jersey Lottery Executive Director James Carey urged. “We have several ways our players can verify if they are winners. More than once, I’ve seen players come to us after a period of time saying they won a prize after finding a misplaced ticket.”

The reminder comes as several other large prizes approach their expiration dates. A $150,000 Jersey Cash 5 ticket purchased at White Oak Liquors in Belleville will expire November 1, while a $50,000 Powerball ticket sold at Stew Leonard’s in Paramus must be claimed by November 23.

In May, a Mercer County player discovered a four-month-old Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million, proving forgotten jackpots do get redeemed — but only if players check.

A millionaire may be out there holding nothing more than a slip of paper.

  • Cecil County woman doubles Pick 5 luck with $100,000 lottery win

North East, MD – A Cecil County woman who usually buys just one Pick 5 ticket per drawing struck it big when she accidentally purchased two tickets with the same number, netting her a total of $100,000.

The longtime lottery player selected the numbers 78048 for the Sept. 30 drawing, a combination she has been playing consistently for about a year. When those numbers hit, both of her $1 straight-bet tickets paid out $50,000 each.

With her husband by her side, she claimed her prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Oct. 1. Though he doesn’t normally play, he said he often encourages her to use numbers spotted on license plates or those tied to family dates.

“It just struck my fancy,” the winner said, adding that she has no immediate plans for the winnings. With children, grandchildren, and even a great-grandchild, she admitted there will be plenty of ways to put the money to use.

This is not her first time winning. In 2014, she scored a $10,000 prize on a $20 scratch-off ticket, making this windfall ten times larger than her previous payout.

She purchased the winning tickets at the Wawa store on Pulaski Highway in North East. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus — $500 for each winning ticket.
