Harford County mom buys Powerball ticket for daughter who wins $50K prize
Belcamp, MD — A Harford County woman scored a $50,000 Powerball prize after her mother purchased a ticket on her behalf while she was busy at work — a lucky move that paid off days after the drawing.
The winning ticket, bought at All in One on Policy Drive in Belcamp, matched five of the six numbers drawn in the September 10 Powerball drawing, landing a third-tier prize for the daughter. The big win came just days after the $1.787 billion jackpot was split between winning tickets in Missouri and Texas on September 6.
The daughter didn’t check the ticket right away and instead asked her mother — a more experienced lottery player — to take a look at it later that week. That’s when the $50,000 surprise was discovered.
The mother and daughter are both longtime lottery players and say they especially enjoy playing when the jackpots soar into the billions. While this marks the daughter’s first major win, her mother recalls smaller payouts in the past, usually ranging from $50 to $100.
The family celebrated the win over dinner in Delaware with another sibling. As for what the daughter plans to do with the money, she says she hasn’t decided just yet but will definitely keep playing.
