According to investigators, the shooting occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. when a trooper from the Golden Ring Barrack attempted to stop a gray Infiniti near Belle Avenue and Milford Avenue. As the trooper approached the driver’s side door, the suspect partially opened the door and fired several shots from inside the vehicle.

Police said the trooper did not return fire. The suspect then sped east on Belle Avenue, leaving behind a chaotic scene as backup units and EMS crews raced to assist. The trooper, whose name has not been released, was transported by ground to the hospital and is receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.

State Police officials described the shooting as a targeted act of violence against law enforcement. “An act of violence against one trooper is an act against every law enforcement officer dedicated to protecting our communities,” the agency said in a statement. “We are committed to finding the person responsible and bringing them to justice.”

The vehicle is described as a silver or gray Infiniti with dark tinted windows, front-end damage, and broken headlights. Police say it may have partial license plates visible.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Baltimore Police Department and Baltimore County Police Department.
