BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland State Police are searching for the driver of a silver or gray Infiniti who opened fire on a trooper early Monday morning during a traffic stop in Baltimore City before fleeing the scene. The trooper was struck and rushed to a shock trauma center for treatment.

Gunfire erupted as trooper approached vehicle
According to investigators, the shooting occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. when a trooper from the Golden Ring Barrack attempted to stop a gray Infiniti near Belle Avenue and Milford Avenue. As the trooper approached the driver’s side door, the suspect partially opened the door and fired several shots from inside the vehicle.
Police said the trooper did not return fire. The suspect then sped east on Belle Avenue, leaving behind a chaotic scene as backup units and EMS crews raced to assist. The trooper, whose name has not been released, was transported by ground to the hospital and is receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.

The vehicle is described as a silver or gray Infiniti with dark tinted windows, front-end damage, and broken headlights. Police say it may have partial license plates visible.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Baltimore Police Department and Baltimore County Police Department.
