McKean County Man Sentenced in Case of Child Exploitation

MCKEAN COUNTY, PA – On Thursday, Donny Lee Smith from Kane faced sentencing in McKean County Court.

Smith had previously pled guilty to the possession of child [censored]ography in a case initiated by Trooper Robert Whyel of the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation began when an internet company notified law enforcement of suspicious images traced back to Smith.

District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer elaborated that sentences for child [censored]ography vary based on numerous factors, including the number of images and the age of the depicted children.

Smith received a sentence ranging from 3 to 6 years in state prison, with 6 years of concurrent probation and 3 years of consecutive probation. Smith’s parole options are limited, and he is required to register as a sex offender for 15 years.
